Pakistan’s Sazgar Engineering Works Limited has opened its first overseas manufacturing facility, a three-wheeler assembly plant in the Philippines, in a step that takes the Lahore-based company’s production beyond Pakistan for the first time, according to reports published on October 30 and 31, 2026.

What happened?

The plant, run by Sazgar Philippines Inc. in Binan, Laguna, was inaugurated by Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. during his visit to the facility on October 29, 2026. Pakistan’s embassy in the Philippines, which facilitated the company’s entry into the market, described the opening as a milestone for Pakistani exports and bilateral trade.

Key details

  • The facility is Sazgar’s first overseas assembly operation; the company has manufactured vehicles in Pakistan for more than three decades.
  • Annual capacity: about 12,000 three-wheeled vehicles.
  • Initial output mix: about 60 percent electric models and 40 percent conventional models powered by internal combustion engines.
  • The venture is 60 percent Filipino-owned, and the plant is intended to serve as Sazgar’s manufacturing hub for the wider ASEAN region.
  • During the visit, the Philippine president highlighted the electric three-wheelers’ single-charge range of 100 to 210 kilometres and urged the company to grow its local supply chain so parts are increasingly made in the Philippines.
  • Sazgar already exports three-wheelers and automotive parts to more than 20 countries, including Japan, the United Arab Emirates, Sri Lanka and Nigeria.

What it means for people in Pakistan

For Pakistan’s manufacturing sector, the plant shows a homegrown vehicle maker moving from exports alone to producing abroad, which can open a larger Southeast Asian market for Pakistani-designed vehicles and parts. If the hub grows as planned, it could bring more export orders and supplier work back to Pakistan, alongside the jobs and local manufacturing activity it creates in the Philippines.
