Balochistan has launched its first digital marriage registration service, issuing the province’s first Marriage Registration Certificate (MRC) through NADRA’s Pak ID app at a union council in Quetta.
What happened?
The service was introduced jointly by the Balochistan government and the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA). The first certificate was issued at the Haji Ghaibi Road Union Council, Ward 22, under the Quetta Metropolitan Corporation. The system adds digital registration for nikah registrars and a digital solemnisation module, replacing much of the paperwork traditionally involved in recording a marriage.
Key details
- Maulvi Samiullah became Balochistan’s first digitally registered nikah registrar, receiving his licence on October 28, 2026.
- He recorded the first marriage through the new system on October 29, and the resulting certificate was issued on October 30.
- Registered nikah registrars submit marriage details and the required documents to the relevant union council through the Pak ID mobile app.
- Once the union council secretary verifies and approves the submission, the system automatically generates the Marriage Registration Certificate.
- The registrar, the bride and the groom can each download and print the certificate from their own Pak ID accounts.
What it means for people in Pakistan
For families in Balochistan, marriage registration can now be completed without repeated visits to government offices, and the certificate is available digitally as soon as it is approved. The pilot in Quetta is a step toward digitising civil records across the province, and if it expands, the same paperless process could reach other districts as well.
