Pakistan’s Private Power and Infrastructure Board (PPIB) has opened a tender seeking a consultant to support the development of 100 MW of distributed solar power plants in Gilgit-Baltistan, according to tender documents reported on November 2, 2026.
What happened?
The PPIB, a statutory body under the Ministry of Energy, is procuring consultancy services for the distributed photovoltaic project planned for Pakistan’s northern Gilgit-Baltistan region. The Water and Power Department of the Gilgit-Baltistan government will act as the executing agency.
Key details
- The project covers 100 MW of distributed solar power plants in Gilgit-Baltistan.
- The selected consultant will independently verify the project’s non-solar works, including transmission and distribution lines, fibre optic networks, substations, approach roads, and project-wide control, monitoring and energy management systems.
- The consultant will also confirm that procurement, designs, materials, installation, testing, commissioning, contractual milestones and payment claims align with approved contracts, designs and specifications.
- The tender begins with an expression of interest stage, open to eligible and experienced firms, including international bidders.
- Applications must be submitted electronically, with a deadline of November 30, 2026.
- Distributed solar supplied 27% of Pakistan’s electricity in 2025, according to analysis by the Pakistan Solar Association cited in the reports.
What it means for people in Pakistan
For residents of Gilgit-Baltistan, more distributed solar capacity could mean more reliable local power in a mountainous region where extending the grid is difficult. For local firms and engineers, the consultancy tender — and the construction work that follows — opens opportunities in Pakistan’s fast-growing solar sector, which already supplies more than a quarter of the country’s electricity.
