The Pakistan Digital Authority (PDA) has briefed a parliamentary committee on a nationwide digital transformation strategy built on three pillars, saying effective digital transformation could add $60 billion to $80 billion to Pakistan’s GDP over the next five years, according to a report published on November 3, 2026.

What happened?
The PDA briefed the National Assembly Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication on its mandate, strategic objectives and the National Digital Master Plan. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Syed Amin ul Haq. The Authority said the plan was developed in consultation with provincial and sectoral stakeholders and approved by the National Digital Commission, which has also issued directives for its implementation.

Key details

  • The plan rests on three pillars: Digital Society, Digital Economy and Digital Governance.
  • Digital Society aims to improve citizens’ access to digital services and build an inclusive digital environment.
  • Digital Economy seeks to promote growth through digital innovation, technology adoption and sectoral transformation.
  • Digital Governance focuses on improving institutional efficiency, transparency and public service delivery through digital solutions.
  • The Authority said it would develop a comprehensive digital roadmap with key performance indicators and implementation parameters to guide federal and provincial institutions and sectoral stakeholders.

What it means for people in Pakistan
If the plan is implemented as described, citizens could see more public services available online and more consistent digital systems across federal and provincial departments, rather than separate, disconnected projects. For businesses, a shared digital roadmap could make it easier to adopt new technology and reach customers online. The projected economic gains, however, remain estimates that will depend on how effectively the plan is carried out.
