Pakistan’s stock market investor base has reached a record 681,965 after the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) added 25,747 new investors in October 2026, the highest monthly addition on record, according to figures shared by Finance Ministry Adviser Khurram Schehzad and reported on November 3, 2026.

What happened?
The PSX added a record 25,747 investors in October 2026, up 66 per cent compared with the same month last year. The latest additions took the exchange’s total investor base to 681,965, up 56 per cent year-on-year and closer to the 700,000 mark. October’s additions also surpassed the previous monthly record of 25,281 investors registered in September 2026.

Key details

  • New investors in October 2026: 25,747, a monthly record and 66 per cent higher than October 2025.
  • Total investor base: 681,965, up 56 per cent from the corresponding period last year.
  • Net new investors between January and October 2026: 218,894, exceeding the combined additions recorded during the previous four calendar years, from 2022 to 2025.
  • Gen Z and millennials accounted for 85 per cent of new investors, according to the Finance Ministry data.

What it means for people in Pakistan
A growing investor base suggests more Pakistanis, especially younger savers, are entering the formal capital market rather than keeping savings outside it. For first-time investors, the trend underlines the importance of learning the basics before investing, since a rising number of accounts does not guarantee returns. For the wider economy, broader retail participation can deepen the capital market and give growing companies another route to raise funds.
