Must read

Ethiopia’s ambassador to Pakistan has urged the business community to take advantage of the Ethiopian market while expanding bilateral trade between the two countries, during a visit to the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry reported on October 28, 2026.

What happened?

Ambassador Dr Oumer Hussien Oba visited the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) to discuss bilateral economic cooperation, explore avenues for stronger trade and investment, and highlight emerging business opportunities in Ethiopia’s growing economy. He was received by RCCI President Nosherwan Khalil Khan, Senior Vice President Waseem Aslam, Vice President Ikram ur Rehman Abbasi, and members of the chamber’s executive committee.

Key details

  • The ambassador was accompanied by Minister Counselor Melaw Getachew, Political and Economic Diplomacy In-charge Ms Kalkidan Tadesse, and Business Promotion Officer Naveel Ahmed.
  • The meeting covered bilateral trade, investment opportunities, institutional linkages and future business collaborations.
  • Both sides discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between the business communities of Pakistan and Ethiopia, and to build stronger institutional connections to facilitate trade and investment.
  • The ambassador congratulated the newly elected office-bearers of the Rawalpindi chamber and wished them a successful tenure.
  • Addressing chamber members, he described Ethiopia as one of the world’s fastest-growing economies and a gateway to Africa, hosting the headquarters of the African Union and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa.

What it means for people in Pakistan

For Pakistani exporters and manufacturers, Ethiopia offers a fast-growing market and a doorway into Africa, with the African Union’s presence in Addis Ababa adding diplomatic weight to commercial ties. For importers, stronger institutional links could open new supply routes, though turning chamber-level talks into actual shipments will depend on follow-up trade missions and workable shipping and payment arrangements.
