The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Technology Board (KPITB) has opened the KP AI Innovation Challenge 2026, inviting students, startups and developers from across the province to present ideas and build artificial intelligence-based solutions. Applications are open now, with November 10, 2026 set as the submission deadline.
What happened?
According to the announcement shared by KPITB, the challenge is a province-wide competition focused on practical AI applications. It features three participation categories: AI Rising Stars for participants aged 12 to 17, AI Launchpad for startups, and AI Builders League for teams of three aged 18 and above.
Key details
- Applications close on November 10, 2026, through the official challenge website.
- Participants must have a Khyber Pakhtunkhwa domicile, and the programme covers all 35 districts of the province.
- Projects can address four themes: Culture, Civics, Environment and Economy. The Culture stream includes speech recognition, translation and optical character recognition for regional languages such as Pashto, Hindko and Khowar.
- Cash prizes are on offer across categories, including Rs50,000 for first place in the school and college categories and up to Rs150,000 for undergraduates and graduates. Startups may qualify for seed funding of up to Rs1 million plus incubation support.
- Selected teams will join a 90-day KP AI Accelerator, and a three-day grand finale is scheduled for November 13, 14 and 15, 2026.
- The initiative also includes KP AWAZ, a community voice-data project supporting speech technology for Pashto and other regional languages.
What it means for people in Pakistan
The challenge gives young innovators in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa a direct route from idea to prototype, with funding, mentoring and incubation for the strongest projects. By focusing on local languages, public services, agriculture and the environment, it encourages AI solutions built for the province’s own needs rather than imported ones. Students and startups with an idea should apply before the November 10 deadline.
