The State Bank of Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves rose to $21.56 billion in the week ended October 30, 2026, marking a third straight weekly increase, according to the central bank’s latest weekly data released on November 5.

What happened?

Reserves held by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) increased by about $39.5 million during the week, while the country’s total liquid foreign exchange reserves rose by $110 million to $26.86 billion. The figures were released in the SBP’s regular weekly reserves update.

Key details

  • SBP-held reserves: $21.56 billion on October 30, up from $21.52 billion a week earlier.
  • Total liquid foreign exchange reserves: $26.86 billion, up $110 million in the week, including about $5.3 billion held by commercial banks.
  • Import cover improved slightly to 3.93 months, from 3.92 months a week earlier.
  • SBP-held reserves have risen by $3.18 billion since June 2026, from $18.38 billion, while total liquid reserves have grown by $3.63 billion over the same period.
  • The SBP aims to build its own reserves to about $23 billion by December 2026.

What it means for people in Pakistan

Steadier and rising reserves support a more stable rupee and help the country pay for imports and meet its external obligations without sudden pressure. For households, that stability matters most through steadier prices of imported goods such as fuel and food. The weekly figures are a snapshot, and reserves can move up or down with inflows and payments.
