Pakistan’s call centre and business process outsourcing (BPO) sector earned $101.315 million in foreign exchange in the first quarter of fiscal year 2026-27, up 23.6 percent from $81.974 million in the same period last year, the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) has announced.

What happened?

PSEB shared the figures in a post on its LinkedIn page, reported on October 30, 2026, crediting legitimate, registered businesses serving international clients for the growth in export earnings and skilled jobs.

Key details

  • Call centre and BPO earnings reached $101.315 million in Q1 FY2026-27, against $81.974 million a year earlier, an increase of about $19.3 million.
  • More than 1,000 call centres are registered with PSEB.
  • The sector earned more than $328 million in FY2024-25, with nearly 90 percent of the industry serving overseas clients.
  • PSEB stressed that illegal operations engaged in fraud should not be confused with the legitimate industry.
  • Registered call centres operate under business verification, registration requirements, internet protocol (IP) whitelisting and inspection.
  • The federal government formed a multi-agency task force in February 2026 to act against illegal call centres and online fraud, and the Interior Ministry said action was taken against 54 illegal call centres and software houses.

What it means for people in Pakistan

For young jobseekers, the growth of a regulated call-centre industry means more formal, export-earning jobs that pay in foreign exchange, while the crackdown on illegal operations protects the reputation of legitimate workers. For the wider economy, every dollar earned by these centres is export income that does not depend on shipping goods abroad.
